Hello again everyone. An era spanning 57 years came to a close on May 10th, 2013, when Hacker Jewelers in Adrian closed its doors for good. Daniel B. Hacker opened his first jewelry store in a little cubby-hole in the front of the old Bliss Theater building in downtown Blissfield in 1956. He moved the store to a larger location across the street in the 1960s, then to the former Blissfield State Bank building at the corner of Lane Street and US 223 in 1983.
In 1984, Daniel B. Hacker and son Daniel G. Hacker opened the Tecumseh Store as partners. In 1987 Daniel G. and wife Barbara purchased the Tecumseh store outright from Daniel B. and have been operating as an independent business ever since. Daniel B. later moved his store from Blissfield to Adrian, where it has operated until just now. Our store in Tecumseh is completely independent of the Adrian store and will remain open (hopefully for a long, long time!)
Of course we feel a sense of gratitude to our father and founder, but we also feel a strong sense of obligation to “carry the torch”. For well over a hundred years there have been multiple owner-operated, independent jewelry stores in Lenawee County. We can recall the days when there were three in Adrian, two in Tecumseh, one in Hudson, one in Morenci, and of course Hacker Jewelers in Blissfield. To our knowledge, we now are the only independent jewelry store left in Lenawee County where the owners are in the store working every day!
So, we do thank all of our customers for trusting us with their jewelry needs, and we look forward to serving you all going forward. We will do our best to meet or exceed all of your expectations. We feel it is our duty to do this not only for our father’s tradition, but also for other former fine Lenawee County jewelry names like Berndt, Blanks, Dangler, Eggleston, and Judge. It is a humbling charge.
Think of us, then, when you are considering gifts for dads and grads. And of course since June is the big wedding month, this is the season for anniversaries as well! We are well-stocked, well-staffed, and eager to serve! Thanks again for checking in with us and we hope to see you soon!
